Aluminium for Knife Handles
Aluminium comes in various grades, and not all are created equal! There are various alloys with different strengths and weaknesses.
It makes a great knife handle material thanks to it’s durability. It’s cool to the touch, smooth and lightweight. Perfect for pocket knives that need to stand the test of time.
The grades are numbered 1000, 2000, 3000 and so on. For the 2000, 6000, 7000 and 8000 series metals there is a T number relating to how they’re hardened and cooled. A little too much detail for here, but suffice to say, an excellent and popular handle material.
T6-6061 alloy
The T6-6061 alloy is the most common for knife handles thanks to it’s exceptional tensile strength. It’s a fantastic alternative to the significantly more expensive titanium often found in premium folders.
